Strong Tremors Felt In Delhi After 6.4-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nepal.

Delhi residents took to social media to post videos of swinging chandeliers and fans, underlining how powerful the earthquake was.

Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby cities after a powerful earthquake hit Nepal late Friday night. The earthquake was of 6.4 magnitude and struck Nepal at a depth of 10 km, the National Center for Seismology said.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.4, Occurred on 03-11-2023, 23:32:54 IST, Lat: 28.84 & Long: 82.19, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal,” the agency posted on X, formerly Twitter.

People in Delhi and the national capital region rushed out of their homes while many took to social media to post videos of swinging chandeliers and fans, underlining how powerful the earthquake was.

The tremors were also felt in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar.

This is the third time in a month that Nepal witnessed such strong quakes. Nepal lies in one of the world’s most active tectonic zones which makes it extremely vulnerable to earthquakes.

On October 3, strong tremors were felt in Delhi after four earthquakes hit Nepal within an hour. While earthquakes of 4.6 and 6.2 magnitude hit within 25 minutes of each other, a third of 3.8 magnitude hit 15 minutes after, and a fourth of 3.1 magnitude 13 minutes later.

In April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake had killed more than 8,000 people and injured over 21,000 in Nepal.
